Looks like Snapchat is the latest social media app to jump on the dual camera trend after Instagram and BeReal.

On Monday, Snapchat announced that it would allow users to capture multiple perspectives at the same time. This is very similar to BeReal’s dual camera feature minus the timed prompt.

Now, if you open your Snapchat, you’ll see a new icon in the camera toolbar. With one tap, you can start creating Snaps, Stories or Spotlight videos showing two angles.

Snapchat’s Dual Camera comes with four layouts including vertical, horizontal, picture in picture, and cutout. Users can add to their Snaps with Snapchat creative tools, including music, Stickers and Lenses.

The new feature is now available globally on iOS which it’s expected to rollout for Android users in the coming months.

Last week, Instagram was reportedly testing a feature called ‘Candid Challenges’ that looked suspiciously inspired by rival social app BeReal. This feature would prompt users to take and share a photo during a two-minute slot, the timing of which would vary each day.

BeReal, which launched in 2020, has grown a massive following among Gen Z-ers in recent weeks, climbing to the top of Apple’s App store in July.

The new feature seems to be part of a bumble of updates the app is making to retain users at a time when the company is reportedly planning layoffs after delivering disappointing earnings results this year.

Earlier this month, Snapchat rolled out a new in-app tool to enable parents to get more insights on how their teenagers use Snapchat.

In July, Snapchat announced that it was bringing its calling and messaging features to the web for the first time allowing Snapchatters to communicate with each other outside of the app.
