‘There are probably dinosaur bones on the Moon’ say scientists in wild claim

One small step for man, one giant leap for… dinosaurs?

That could well be the case, according to shocking claims around the dinosaurs' demise at the hands of a planet killer asteroid.

In an interview featured in the book 'The Ends of the World', author Peter Brannen sits down with astronomer David Rebolledo to quiz him on the dinosaur extinction at the hands of a giant asteroid 65 million years ago.

Rebolledo claims that the force of the asteroid's impact was so powerful, it likely punched a hole in the Earth's atmosphere and sent tonnes of debris soaring into space.

That means fragments of dinosaur could well be up there, and some of it might even have made it to the Moon.

Brannen writes: "As the asteroid collided with the earth, in the sky above it where there should have been air, the rock had punched a hole of outer space vacuum in the atmosphere.

"As the heavens rushed to close the hole, enormous volumes of earth were expelled into orbit and beyond—all within a second or two of impact."

When asked if this means dinosaur bones could have made it to the Moon, Rebolledo said: "Yeah, probably."

If true, it means humans weren't the first Earthlings to travel to our nearest celestial neighbour—although we were likely the first to make it alive.

While the claims might sound far-fetched, Rebolledo is an acclaimed astronomer who works at the Joint ALMA Observatory in Santiago, Chile.
