Upcoming Freeview upgrade will offer you an improved way to watch TV

Freeview fans will soon have a new way to tune into their favourite shows and boxsets. The team at Manhatten have just announced that their latest and greatest set-top boxes will go on sale early next and and will offer homes a boost to the viewing experience. There are two devices coming soon including the standard T4 TV Box and more feature-packed T4•R device which both get improved quad-core processors inside for a faster user experience along with full access to 70 channels and 60,000 hours of on-demand telly.

Manhatten is also promising smarter search which should make it easier to find the things you like watching, a simplified user interface, an improved TV guide and a new remote with a sleek, organic design.

The boxes are fully Ultra HD HDR compatible so you’ll be able to watch movies and programmes in pin-sharp definition

The T4 range includes all the most popular free-to-view services including ITVX, My 5, iPlayer and UK TV Play apps.

The main difference between the T4 and T4•R are the price and features.

Freeview introduce their new Play streaming service in 2021

If you opt for the basic T4 model you’ll pay just £69.99 when it launches in early 2024.

However, this box doesn;t offer pause or rewind functionality or the option to record anything. If you want those bonus extras you’ll need to switch things up to the T4•R.

This £169.99 set-top box lets you store 1200 hours of shows, movies and sporting action along with ability to record two programmes while you watch a third.

Pause, rewind and fast forward is also available so you can stop watching live TV to make a tea and continue from where you left off.
