WWE 2K23 game cover leaks days before official launch with legend featured

The cover and release date for the next instalment of WWE's iconic wrestling game series has been revealed a week ahead of schedule.

The WWE 2K series has been the biggest-selling wrestling game franchise for many years.

And fans have been waiting with baited breath after the success of WWE 2k22, which took two years to come out after the comical failure of the 2K20 version.

And in the same way fans of the FIFA football game franchise look forward to finding out who the cover star for the game will be, wrestling fans do the same thing for the 2K series.

But the wait is now over after the cover was posted by a now-deleted tweet from a Microsoft data-mining Twitter account.

Making this year's cover is legendary wrestler and actor John Cena – who has wrestled for WWE every year for the last 20 years.

The leaked cover shows Cena doing his iconic “You Can't See Me” hand wave, while wearing his green WWE merchandise – although WWE has not confirmed this is the official cover, the account leaking the information has a good track record for previous leaks.

It also claims the version is a cross-gen edition, meaning players from the various Xbox, PlayStation and PC versions can all battle against each other.

The release date has also been leaked, eight days ahead of the official announcement which was scheduled to be made during WWE's Royal Rumble event on January 28.

According to the tweet, the game will come out on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, PC and the various Xbox versions on Tuesday, March 14, with the cross-gen version making its appearance on the Xbox consoles a few days later on Friday, March 17.

The inclusion of Cena on the front cover likely means he will be the focus of the game's Showcase Mode, which allows gamers to play through key moments of his career for themselves.

It has also been rumoured that Latin music star Bad Bunny will be in the game after making several successful in-ring appearances for the company, as will YouTube star-turned-drinks-salesman Logan Paul.
