A Place in the Sun guest can ‘barely breathe’ over nail-biting offer

A Place in the Sun couple emotional as offer accepted

A Place in the Sun viewers watched as one househunter was anxious over waiting to find out if one dream property would be hers.

On Tuesday’s instalment of the Channel 4 show, expert Lauren Hamilton took fans to Lot et Garonne in France where she showed couple Zoe and Neil a range of potential homes.

The couple, who had a budget of £220,000 with wiggle room of up to £250,000 maximum, wanted to relocate permanently to the French countryside.

Listing out a range of amenities they wanted, Laura set to work and showed them a total of five properties all ranging in price.

Initially, the pair were sold on the second home they saw with Zoe being moved to tears before stepping foot inside the farmhouse.

However, it wasn’t until Laura showed them the fifth and final property that the pair were swayed.

The farmhouse in Auriac-sur-dropt had nearly seven acres of land and was a big renovation project for the couple.

On the market for just over £250,000, the pair knew it was at the top end of their maximum budget but were sold.

After being shown around, Zoe told Laura: “This has just captured my heart, I just want to get started now.”

Confessing they didn’t need to sleep on it and were set on putting an offer in, it was time for Laura to get in contact with the other estate agent.

They revealed they wanted to put in an initial offer of £225,000, due to all the work that needed to be done.

Laura replied: “The agent said they’d be willing to negotiate within your top wiggle room of £250,000. Now, I think £225,000 is a little cheeky, but let’s try it.”

As she made the call, their offer was rejected as it was too low.

Not coming back with a counteroffer, they decided to up their offer to £235,000.

Making the call again, Zoe commented: “I can barely breathe!”

As the agent revealed the owner wanted time to think about their higher offer, Zoe and Neil decided they didn’t want the home to go and decided to up their price one final time.

Offering £250,000, their offer was accepted as Zoe broke down in tears. She said: “Thank you so much!”

A Place in the Sun is available to watch weekdays on Channel 4 from 4pm.
