SMOKIN JO launched her career at London’s fabled club Turnmills in 1991. She became the resident DJ for the famous Trade parties held at the venue until its 2008 closure.
Jo was also resident at Space Ibiza for ten years and, in recognition of her many achievements in 30 years behind the decks, became the go-to DJ for the world’s A listers. She has DJ’d at parties for the likes of Daniel Craig, supermodel Naomi Campbell and Johnny Depp.
Trade, the club night that broke all the rules, returns to the capital on Saturday, February 25 at Egg London and she will be back on the turntables alongside Nicole Moudaber, Eats Everything, DJ Paulette and a who’s who of Trade legends.
We caught up with Jo this week and she’s shared her Trade playlist with us. Listen to it, and read what she had to say about the music below.
Cajmere – Brighter Days (Marco Lys Remix)
The original of this track was always a favourite for me, and this Marco Lys remix is absolutely killer. Can’t get enough of those vocal hooks and the breakdown is absolutely incredible, pure vibes.
Star B, Riva Star, Mark Broom – Love Will Remain
A stomping track with some attitude vocals.
Photon Inc – Generate Power featuring Paula Brion
One of the big tracks from Trade in the 90s. I play it now and again and it still sounds super fresh.
Honey Dijon – Don’t Be Afraid featuring LATASHA
This woman is on fire at the moment. Love this track…it’s just got so much energy and the vocals are sick.
Tronco Trax – Walk 4 Me
Another Trade favourite which the gay crowds love, this is a simple beat track with that vogue ballroom vibe.
Smooth Touch – House of Love
Strictly Rhythm at its finest and another cool Trade track, this sound brings back fond memories.
Fierce Ruling Diva – Rubb It In
Iconic 90’s Trade tune that people used to go crazy for.
DJ Pierre – Love Desire (DJ Pierre Wild Pitch Mix)
Quality US House with a rolling bass to drive you wild.
Alcatraz – Give Me Luv
Huge Trade track and massive everywhere else. Super loved up and when the drop hits with the vocals it’s epic.
Fresco Edits & Ron Carroll – You Will Survive
Take me to church, preacher style vocals kick this track into gear.
