Abbie Quinnen appeared on Thursday’s Steph’s Packed Lunch to give Channel 4 viewers an insight into the injury that threatened her dance career. Alongside boyfriend AJ Pritchard, the pair are both professional dancers but found themselves the victims of a terrifying accident when making a video for their social media followers. Now recovering physically from the ordeal, Abbie bravely opened up about thinking her face “had gone” and her fears AJ would no longer “love me” after the incident.

Joining Steph McGovern on her daytime talk show, Abbie had recorded a short segment about the accident.

The horrific ordeal happened in January this year when Abbie and AJ tried to make a “life hack” video that used flames to turn a disused wine bottle into a vase.

Speaking to the Channel 4 cameras, Abbie revealed: “I forget about everything when I dance.

“I just concentrate on the movement which feels amazing to have that escape.”

Narrating over the segment which showed her in action, Abbie continued: “I met my boyfriend AJ during our appearance on the nationwide tour of Get On The Floor.

“We danced together and we still dance together which is the best.

“Him being my best friend and my dance partner at the same time, it’s just amazing.”

Reliving the accident and how their worlds were turned upside down, however, she went on: “But in January, my career came to a crashing halt.

“A life hack video attempt with AJ went horribly wrong.”

She explained: “The online tutorial showed how to turn a wine bottle into a vase using a flame.

“The fire just blew up, it instantly exploded and instantly caught my hair which was obviously so awful – I just remember it so vividly.”

Reliving her reaction, she said: “Pretty much immediately after it happened I walked straight to the mirror to see what I looked like and I was just in shock.”

“I thought that that was it,” Abbie admitted. “I thought that was my face gone.

“I remember saying to AJ, ‘Will you still love me?’”

Delving into the extent of the accident, Abbie added: “I had sustained second-degree burns to my face and third-degree burns on my body.”

Photos Abbie and AJ had taken after the incident then popped up which showed the extent of the burns on her face.

Abbie has regularly been updating her 88.7k Instagram followers with her recovery where she’s been met with swathes of support.

Now continuing her dance career, Abbie hasn’t let the ordeal slow her down.

And the same goes for AJ who, despite bowing out of Strictly Come Dancing, has continued to wow on the dance floor up and down the country.

Steph’s Packed Lunch airs weekdays at 12:30pm on Channel 4.
