Alex Jones fights back tears after ‘coming clean’ to The One Show guest

The One Show: Producers asked for help

Alex Jones choked back tears during Thursday’s The One Show after making a confession to two guests.

Two community football coaches, Vickie and Allan at Planet Penguin Football Foundation, were praised for their work of leading three teams of people of all ages.

The Brentford Football Club specialises in players with Down’s Syndrome, while also running clubs for men and women over 50.

Joining Alex and Roman, the coaches thought they were there to discuss their football teams but Alex made a confession which left them stunned.

Vickie and Allan had been nominated by their clubs and friends to be recognised by the BBC show and receive a One Big Thank You.

Standing outside on a green football pitch outside of the studio, Alex told the duo: “I’m with Vickie and Allan who have set up three different community teams at their club.

“Including a team for those with Down’s Syndrome and an over-50s men’s mental health team and a brand new women’s walking team.”

However, revealing the truth as to why they were there, she added: “I’m going to come clean. So you know we did a rehearsal earlier and I asked you those questions?

“It’s not why you’re here. Let me tell you – those people who play in your teams got in contact with us and they told us how much you two have changed their lives.”

Welling up, Alex showed them a series of video messages from those who voted for them as she declared: “This is your one big thank you.”

After they watched the clip, their football team along with former Lionesses, Alex Scott, Rachel Yankey and Ellen White appeared and praised their work.

Turning to the pair, Alex claimed there were both “amazing humans” and expressed: “I need a tissue!”
