GB News morning host Anne Diamond snapped at a leading Remainer columnist this morning after he suggested Britain rejoin the EU’s single market. Ms Diamond hit back, saying “we have done Brexit” as she warned against rehashing the same argument. This comes as Liz Truss enjoyed a warm welcome at the first meeting of the European Political Community in Prague, amid a thawing of relations between the UK and the EU.
GB News political editor Darren McCaffrey remarked that Ms Truss “has had an easier, more welcoming time on the continent than back home”.
Paul Connew, a columnist for the New European, told GB News that building bridges with Europe is the way forward, as he claimed: “The British public are turning against Brexit.”
He praised the Prime Minister’s reconciliation with her French counterpart Emmanuel Macron after Ms Truss called him “a friend”.
Ms Truss caused controversy during the Tory leadership race when she said the jury was out on whether President Macron was a “friend or foe”.
Mr Connew remarked: “It is a very good thing. I am a Remainer anyway so I think building better bridges back to Europe is good for us.
“Polls are showing that people are turning against Brexit. Reality is setting in.

“The last 12 opinion polls show the public is sceptical about Brexit, among both Remainers and Leavers.”
He mocked Ms Truss, claiming she had moved from “once a staunch Remainer, then a zealous Brexit convert, and now someone who looks keen to build bridges to Europe – more so than Boris Johnson”.
He continued: “There are Brexiteer Tories like Lord Hannan, who is advocating we should consider rejoining the customs union and single market without fully rejoining the EU.
“Whether the EU would buy that or not, I don’t know. It would be a massive boost to Britain’s economy.”
This prompted Ms Diamond to hit back: “We can’t have this argument all over again, can we?”
The fed-up host added: “We have done Brexit, haven’t we?”
Nicola Sturgeon says Truss is showing 'arrogance and insecurity'
This comes amid a thawing of ties between the two sides, after former Irish taoiseach Leo Varadkar admitted that the Northern Ireland protocol is “a little too strict”.
Mr Varadkar said on Thursday: “The protocol is not being fully implemented and yet it is still working.
“I think that demonstrates there is some room for further flexibility, for changes that hopefully will make it acceptable to all sides.”
He added: “I would concede that perhaps the protocol, as it was originally designed, was a little too strict.”
Following up on Mr Varadkar’s comments, Irish Foreign Minister Simon Coveney also attempted to defuse the situation as he suggested the controversial Northern Ireland Protocol Bill is not something to be concerned about at the moment.

Ireland and the EU had previously expressed frustration over the proposal, claiming it would undermine the purpose of the Brexit agreement.
Mr Coveney maintained Dublin was not “particularly happy” with the bill but said “it is best ignored for now.”
This has raised hopes of EU compromises on post-Brexit relations as talks reopen between London and Brussels.
Meanwhile, the UK is poised to sign a deal with an EU energy partnership it left after Brexit.
The UK will join the voluntary North Seas Energy Cooperation (NSEC), which is made up of the European Commission, eight member states and Norway.
