Anneka Rice has a La La Land blunder as she announces NTAs winner: You had one job!

National Television Awards viewers were left cringing on Thursday night as Anneka Rice suffered a La La Land blunder.

During the 2022 ceremony, host Joel Dommett revealed he had decided to challenge Anneka, in a play on her famous show Challenge Anneka, to head to the stage and present an award in three minutes.

To which Anneka entered the stage to announce the winner of the Quiz Game Show award.

However, upon reading out the result, Anneka appeared to get confused as she accidentally read out one of the nominees instead of the winners.

The presenter declared: "The 1% Club!" before realising she had read out a nominee as she quickly clarified: "No!"

Anneka then smoothed it out by announcing all the other nominees before revealing that Beat The Chasers were the winners.

Viewers were quick to comment on the blunder, which appeared to replicate the awkward moment La La Land mistakingly won Best Picture at the Oscars in 2017.

One person said: "You had one job Anneka #NTAs."

A different account put: "Not Anneka incorrectly calling The 1% Club the winner #NTAs…"

Another follower wrote: "Not Challenge Anneka having a Moonlight/La La Land moment #NTAAwards #NTAs."

While a different viewer added: "Challenge Anneka…to announce a television award correctly #NTAs #NationalTelevisionAwards #NTAAwards."

Elsewhere during the NTAs, King Charles III made a surprise appearance where he shared his unexpected love of a hit soap.

His Majesty, 73, appeared in a pre-recorded video taken earlier this year when he was Prince of Wales before his ascension to the throne, to share a moving message to Emmerdale, which is celebrating its 50th on Sunday.

King Charles congratulated the team on their half a century, as well as their work around sustainability both on and off screen and their ability to entertain as well as inform.

Reminiscing first about the show’s original name, Emmerdale Farm and about the Sugden family, His Royal Highness moved on to talk about the importance of the show’s depiction of rural life.

King Charles then spoke about the value of the countryside, and the programme’s fans all over the world. The Prince added a final Happy Anniversary to all the cast and crew.

NTA's Executive Producer, Kim Turberville, said: "We were delighted to be able to surprise the Emmerdale team with such an important message.

"Fifty years of iconic television out of the North is a huge achievement and rightly deserves to be celebrated in the best way possible.

"It is with great thanks to His Royal Highness for delivering this message to pop the icing on their birthday cake ahead of their very special weekend."
