Antiques Roadshow fans floored by ‘most expensive Barbie’ to appear on the show

Antiques Roadshow fans were left stunned by the "highest-value" Barbie dolls on the US version of the show.

In the clip, which has gained more than 8,000 views, the official social media account for the PBS show listed all of the pricey Barbie dolls that have appeared on the programme — from the classic American girl Barbie to the first ever Barbie ever created.

The video revealed seven different dolls counting from the ones with the lowest value to the highest.

At number seven, was the Twist N Turn Barbie and her sidekick doll Dr Ken, which were released in 1965.

Despite their age and excellent condition, antique experts valued them at just $190 (£148) when they were brought onto the show in 2015.

But a year prior (2014), someone got almost double the value for just Barbie accessories as they estimated them to be worth between $300 (£233) to $500 (£389) — giving them the spot at number six.

However, the fifth spot was taken by the 20th-century American girl doll in her "Golden Glamour" outfit, which appeared on the show in 2015.

A range of American girl Barbies was released from 1965 to 1967 and was valued on the show as being worth $500 (£389) to $700 (£544).

The doll, which originally retailed for $5, also appeared at number 4 with a full wardrobe of clothes and a collectable carry case.

The collection was valued just last year (2022) at $600 (£467) to $800 (£622).

And it would appear that the full wardrobe for the Barbie dolls just adds to the price as two dolls from the early 1960s were valued at a whopping $1,500 (£1,167), taking third place.

The guest had taken the pair of ginger dolls onto the show with "almost every 1960s outfit" and experts were left stunned that they were "complete".

In second place was the aptly named No. 2 Barbie, which was very similar to the original, only she had dark hair and no holes in her shoes.

She was dressed in a strapless dress with black and white stripes, with orange and green bows on the front.

In 2017, the doll was estimated to be worth $3,000 (£2,335) to $3,500 (£2,724).

But taking the top spot was the original Barbie, whose value actually left viewers furious as they thought it was too low.

Collectable doll expert Marshall Martin claimed the doll was only estimated to be worth between $3,500 and $4,500 because the doll was slightly worn due to being played with and having her hair brushed and not in mint condition with the box.
