Armed police swarmed around us as I tried to propose to my husband, reveals The Chase's Paul Sinha | The Sun

THE Chase's Paul Sinha has revealed armed police "swarmed" around him and his partner as he tried to propose to his husband.

The quizzer spoke candidly about how he proposed to his now husband, Oliver Levy with Kate Thornton on her White Wine Question Time podcast.

Paul, 53, revealed it initially took place in an "unexpectedly romantic scene" in Italy.

He began: "I got dumped in 2015 by boyfriend number one, and that autumn I spent a night drinking with my cousin in Rome. We went and walked the streets of Rome and we suddenly found ourselves on a bridge over the River Tiber and I looked at the view and I thought, ‘My god, this would be a nice place to propose to someone one day'."

Paul shared that because he had just been dumped, the idea "that one person could ever be me" doing the proposing hadn't even "occurred" to him.

The star continued: "I just thought the view was lovely, ‘Isn't this romantic’, la de da de da. I ended up on that bridge four years later proposing to Oliver, and it wasn't even deliberate."

Paul admitted that he wanted to propose to Oliver near the Fountain of the Four Rivers while the pair were in Rome, but there were "armed police" everywhere.

Speaking about the proposal, Paul said: "I wanted to propose to him at the Piazza Navona, where the Fountain of the Four Rivers is, but there were armed police everywhere because it was just after Christmas and European capital cities are very much on high terror alert during the Christmas period."

As they were surrounded by cops, Paul felt it was not a "romantic environment."

Paul said: "So, I just said, ‘Oliver, let's go for a walk’ and we just walked and walked and walked and I was looking around looking for the perfect place. Then to my astonishment, I found myself on that exact bridge. It was a complete accident that I found myself on the exact bridge that I stood on with my cousin four years previously, so it's an extraordinary coincidence, really."
