Avicii fans call for him to be given posthumous honour at Billboard Awards after final tweet revealed his delight at nomination days before shock death

The DJ is nominated for Top Dance/Electronic Album at the show and his followers want him to win to celebrate his contribution to music.

The shortlist was announced on April 17, just three days before the star's shock death in Oman yesterday aged just 28, and Avicii's final message on Twitter was a thank you.

He wrote: "Thanks for the nomination! ? @billboard #BBMAS."

His record Avīci (01) is set to compete with The Chainsmokers, Memories…Do Not Open, Calvin Harris' Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 1, Stargazing by Kygo and ODESZA's A Moment Apart.

However, fans want to make sure the honour goes to Avicii.

After news of his death broke they flocked to Twitter to comment on his post and many urged Billboard bosses to recognise him at the show.

One wrote: "Rip I hope you will win. You definitely deserve it!"

Another added: "We need to vote for him, like his last memory."

A third tweeted: "Must win that would be an incredible tribute."

One more commented: "My hearts hurts. I hope they make a good tribute for #Avicii ??? #RestEasy."

Another wrote: "#RipAvicii thank you for giving us so much amazing music and so many of us want to vote for you to win this award in honour of you and your music.

"Everyone PLEASE honour Tim’s legacy by winning this for him…"

The billboard awards take place on May 20.

The Swedish DJ passed away at the age of 28 in Muscat, Oman, earlier today.

The sad news was confirmed by his representative in a statement, but no more details about his passing have been released.
