BBC Breakfast presenter Ben Thompson got mixed up in a major identity blunder as he went to introduce the weather segment during Tuesday's programme (November 8).

Ben, 41, stepped in for Jon Kay who typically hosts alongside Sally Nugent from every week from Monday to Wednesday, with fan favourite Nina Warhurst stepping in alongside him.

As they sat on the red sofa and talked through the top stories of the day, it was time to get an update on the weather as Ben introduced the beloved Scottish star.

He said: "Let's check in with Carol on what the weather is doing," before exclaiming: "Good morning to you Carol!"

But as the duo turned to face the screen, they were both stunned when they realised it wasn't Carol who was stood there but instead, Sarah Keith-Lucas.

"Oh it's Sarah indeed," clarified Ben as Nina joked: "Carol, you've changed!"

As Ben apologised, a giggling Sarah raised her arms and said: "A surprise Carol today!"

After the meteorologist finished filling viewers in on today's weather forecast, Ben apologised once again for the mix up.

"I'm so sorry Sarah!," he insisted before explaining: "I hadn't turned to look at the screen and there you are of course!"

Giving her a little compliment, the news anchor added: "Nice to have you with us this morning and I'm sorry to call you Carol!"

"I'll forgive you. Just this once," responded Sarah before she was met with giggles from the pair.

Carol, 60, typically presents the weather forecast on BBC Breakfast and has been on the show since 1998.

She recently spoke about her future on the morning programme admitting it is unlikely that she will still be working there when she's 70.

The weatherwoman told the Western Mail: "I don't want to go, but one day it's going to happen.

"Hopefully, it will be natural but I also have to acknowledge I'm 60 and am unlikely to be at the BBC when I'm 70, I would have thought."
