BBC Strictly’s Layton Williams breaks silence over Shirley Ballas remark

Strictly: Layton and Nikita defend Shirley amid criticism

Strictly Come Dancing stars Layton Williams and Nikita Kuzmin have defended head judge Shirley Ballas over her feedback from last weekend’s live show.

The pair danced a lively American Smooth routine but found themselves in the dreaded dance-off against Angela Scanlon and Carlos Gu.

Fortunately, they were saved by the judges from elimination and made it to the next round of the BBC competition.

Both Layton and Nikita appeared on This Morning to chat about their Strictly journey and addressed the judges’ critiques.

Craig Doyle asked: “There’s been a bit of reaction that Shirley’s been unfair – that she has a problem with you. Can you talk us through that scenario?”

Nikita replied: “No no, I think the judges always give us positive feedback. Like we take what they say and we think about it.

“Obviously, it was a bit “lumpy” like Shirley said.”

Layton then interrupted: “Not lumpy!” to which Nikita said: “Yeah, we take it on the chin and we go back and we work on it. It’s why the judges are there.”

The couple found themselves in the bottom two for the first time so far in the competition.

Despite the majority decision from the judges to save Layton and Nikita, head judge Shirley admitted that she would have saved Angela and Carlos.
