Kicking off the show, Good Morning Britain’s Kate Garraway pointed out Ben Shephard had a small red bump on the top of his head. Whilst looking embarrassed at the memory of what happened, Ben admitted he suffered a small accident whilst walking home from a night out with his friends.

Using her pen, Kate pointed out: “I don’t know if you can see if we can get a camera, it’s all gone a little bit Harry Potter, there’s a little red mark.”

Ben explained how he got the bump: “So I went to see some friends yesterday in the early evening and I had gone to have a drink with them.

“So the match had started so I was watching it on catch-up as I left them to walk home. So I am watching on my phone walking along the road, totally engrossed.

“And I did a proper Kate Garraway, I walked head first into a lamp post! Literally smashed into a lamp post, phone went flying as a bus went past and all these kids were going ‘Woooo’.

“I was absolutely mortified. The only thing, as I picked it [phone] up Harry Kane scored and I started going ‘Woo’.

“It was one of those moments, you know you watch those viral TikToks and things of people sort of looking at their phone, falling into ponds. I properly clattered this lamp post.”

Concerned about her co-star’s wellbeing, Kate asked: “Are you ok? Did you go a bit dizzy?” but Ben assured her: “No, no I was just embarrassed.

“I was absolutely fine, it was just I was so engrossed in this match and it properly happened and I just thought wait until Kate hears about this.

“It was just hilarious, I walked in and Annie said ‘What have you done to your face?’ and I said ‘Well Harry Kane scored a penalty and I have been celebrating and I head butted a lamp post.”

Kate touched on a moment where she found herself in an embarrassing situation and recalled: “I did one where at Smooth Radio there is this spiral staircase.

“I walked in there one day carrying one or two bags, as I tend to, rollers in and I walked straight into the bar of the staircase.

“It was so painful, I literally collapsed on the floor the security guards all came rushing round me, these young people from Capital came over and they were all helping me up like some elderly person.

“I was like I’m fine, so embarrassed and I walked up the stairs a little bit and as I disappeared out of sight they all just collapsed into laughter!

“There is a moment when even though you know someone is in distress, you just sort of stop yourself laughing at the calamity of it.”
