Casualty star quits soap leaving viewers heartbroken

Casualty is losing a relatively new face as Max Cristie’s storyline comes to an end in upsetting news for fans.

Nigel Harman joined the cast in February of this year as a consultant on the popular medical drama.

During his time on Casualty he’s been reunited with an old friend Dylan Keogh, played by William Beck, and his estranged daughter Jodie.

The 50-year-old Eastenders alum is heading to the dance floor for this season of Strictly Come Dancing, starting next week.

Nigel has no plans to return to Casualty after the Strictly stint ends, although his character will remain on screen for a few more months.

He admitted his time on the show is ‘done for the time being’ and is set to exit the drama in February next year, although it’s not known how.

‘My time on ‘Casualty’ is done for the time being,’ Nigel confirmed to the Daily Star Sunday newspaper.

He continued: ‘There are no plans for me to go back at the moment.’

Nigel’s exit will come as a shock to fans as he’s become a firm favourite in his short time on the show.

An insider said: ‘Nigel is so popular – getting him on board was such a coup. A lot of viewers have been tuning in just to see him.

‘This news will be heartbreaking for a lot of viewers.’

Although his Casualty time is coming to an end, fans can catch Nigel dancing up a storm on the BBC’s dancing competition show.

He recently confessed he is ‘amazed, excited and terrified’ of the gruelling show which turns celebrities into dancing legends.

Nigel said: ‘As an armchair fan of the show I have watched in awe as people have twirled and gyrated across the screen. And now it’s my turn … gulp!’

The Dennis Rickman actor has sought advice from his Casualty co-star Charles Venn, who played Ray Dixon in ‘EastEnders’ and previously took part in ‘Strictly’ – but admitted he didn’t like what he had to say.

Speaking on Lorraine, Nigel said: ‘Charles Venn took me aside and he went really serious. He said, “You’ve got to do cardio at the gym. Cardio, cardio.” I thought, “Oh my God”.’

Nigel recently graduated as a meditation teacher, and admitted he has a feeling he is ‘going to need’ such skills amid his Strictly stint.
