Channel 4 has delivered an urgent notice as The Great British Bake Off is pulled from the TV schedule.

Devotees of the beloved show are in for disappointment as the series has been abruptly removed from its customary time slot on Tuesday, October 17. The scheduling shake-up comes in light of Channel 4's exclusive rights to broadcast the Euro 2024 qualification matches and England’s crucial game against current Euro champs Italy in the same time slot.

Taking to X, Channel 4 attempted to get ahead of any backlash form fans, posting: “IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT: The football is on tonight so Bake Off And Don't Look Down are on tomorrow night. We are posting this now so we don't get loads of messages at 8pm asking why the Bake Off Tent has been replaced by Wembley.”

Some fans took umbridge with the news, but others had some creative responses. “Why not have the Bake Off tent inside Wembley?!” asked on fan. “So, in other words, you can't have your cake and eat it” Penned another.

Another predicted an influx of angry viewers despite the warning. A fan said: “Good luck with that. You will get loads of messages nevertheless. It will be almost as if you had not posted this advanced warning.”

The show has so far said goodbye to three bakers, with Amos, Keith and Abbi all falling at very early hurdles – leaving nine remaining contestants to battle it out for the title. Last week was bread week and saw Abbi’s Bake Off journey come to an end. Bread week is notoriously always a nervous one for the bakers under the watchful eye of the “bread master” Paul Hollywood with many seeming to have an “off week.”

But fans of the show, which aims to find Britain’s best amateur baker, will not miss a single second this week. The show will have the same amount of episodes and will instead air on Wednesday, October 18.

It may prove a dilemma for TV fans as the show will now clash with other popular programmes including the BBC show Celebrity Race Across the World, Married at First Sight and more. The show will air at 8pm. Although it is airing a day later, the delay to the show will not cause a ripple effect as The Great British Bake Off: An Extra Slice, will still air at its usual time on Thursday, October 19.
