Charlie Brooks' first role revealed after Janine's explosive EastEnders exit

It was announced last month that Charlie Brooks would be bowing out of her EastEnders role at the end of this year, as Janine Butcher exits in dramatic fashion.

Although Charlie doesn’t plan on slowing down any time soon! Her next role has already been confirmed as she returns to the stage for a UK tour.

The actress will take on the role of Ursula in the National Theatre’s production of The Ocean at the End of the Lane, based on the book of the same name by Neil Gaiman.

The play will begin performances in December and continue until September 2023, with Charlie appearing in her role until June.

She will visit 15 locations across the UK, including Salford, Wimbledon, Edinburgh, Dublin, Belfast and Cardiff.

Though Janine’s 18 month return to the square has felt brief, it was actually extended by executive producer Chris Clenshaw.

‘I was only ever due back to EastEnders for a year, but when Chris Clenshaw presented me with his idea for the story, I couldn’t say no to staying a little longer.’ Charlie said, discussing her exit.

‘I’ve had an amazing time, as I always do when I go back.

‘But as always with Janine, she probably should not outstay her welcome — for everyone’s sake.’

EastEnders cast and crew are currently filming major scenes for Christmas, which will see Janine and enemy Linda Carter (Kellie Bright) involved in a second car crash, as the vehicle plummets from a cliff into the ocean.

It appears Janine will emerge from this incident, as she flags down a car while soaking wet.

Meanwhile, Danny Dyer’s character Mick will dive in to save Linda – but with him leaving too, will this be the end of the landlord?
