AFTER starring in some cracking dramas for Channel 5 recently, Jill Halfpenny will be returning to ITV in The Long Shadow, about serial killer Peter Sutcliffe.

The former EastEnders and Corrie actress – who also appeared in The Drowning and The Holiday on C5 – will play Doreen, the mother of Sutcliffe’s last victim, Jacqueline Hill.

The 20-year-old student from Middles-brough was murdered by Sutcliffe, branded the Yorkshire Ripper, in Leeds on November 17, 1980, and her body found on wasteland.

Delving into this dark chapter in British history, the drama will look at Doreen’s grief and her subsequent struggle to uncover just how much the investigation was botched by police.

The six-part series, set to air later this year, will also feature Katherine Kelly, Daniel Mays, David Morrissey, Toby Jones, Stephen Tompkinson And Lee Ingleby.

Talk about a stellar cast .
