Coronation Street star ‘sad’ to see co-star leave ITV soap as he addresses exit

Coronation Street actor Bill Fellows has admitted he'd 'sad' to see his co-star Chris Gascoyne's exit from the soap.

It was reported back in July, that the Peter Barlow actor would be leaving the ITV show for "an extended break" 20 years after he first set foot on the cobbles.

ITV soap bosses are yet to confirm Peter's exit from the soap or when his final scenes will air.

However, sources close to the soap revealed to The Mirror that his break from the show would not be permanent.

Bill, who plays Stu Carpenter in Corrie, said that he had hoped to film alongside Chris ahead of his departure from the show.

He added: "A very good friend of mine who I've had very little to do with is Chris Gascoyne but unfortunately he is leaving, it's sad but hopefully I will have a few little things with him [before he goes], but everyone is so good and so nice".

Bill also paid tribute to William Roache, who plays Peter's on-screen dad Ken Barlow, before the actor stated he "really [does] like working with Bill [Roache]".

Chris first made his appearance on the show all the way back in 2000, regularly bowing out of the show on numerous occasions.

But he opted to permanently come back to the show in 2016 which lasted until he made the decision to take "an extended break" from the programme.

Whilst no specific information has been given on how or when he will leave the series, Chris has already bagged a new role.

Earlier in the year, it was confirmed that the actor would be joining the panto scene, leaving Manchester behind in favour of St. Albans.

The Alban Arena, where the panto will be held over the festive season, confirmed Chris' stint on the theatre gig.

"The Alban Arena are delighted to announce Coronation Street Legend Chris Gascoyne will star as Captain Hook in The All New Adventures of Peter Pan this pantomime season!" the theatre said in a statement.

After the panto is over next year, Chris will be looking to explore other roles, but the door is not shut on returning to Weatherfield.

Coronation Street airs Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 8pm
