CORONATION Street newcomer Jodie Prenger opened up about her emotional first day on set and being star struck.

The musical theatre star will be making her on-screen acting debut in the ITV soap on Friday.

Jodie, 43, will star as Glenda Shuttleworth, sister to George (Tony Maudsley).

She shared her excitement for viewers to see her first appearance on the cobbles during Tuesday's Loose Women.

Jodie explained how she cried during her first seen at the Rovers Return pub as she remembered her nan as well as being incredibly "nervous" and "shaking."

Jodie said: "My family all go back to Manchester in Mosside. They used to have a laundrette and a café shop/grocery store, and my nan's brother used to deliver Pat Phoenix's groceries. My nan, she worshipped Elsie Tanner."

Coleen asked her: "What was it like meeting people you have seen on-screen for ages?"

Jodie replied: "Bill Roche… and I did a strange curtsy bow."

Talking about her character, Jodie said: "She's fun, she's sassy, she's a bundle of energy. She's a dream to play.
