Corrie reveals who will catch Stephen out as dark future is hinted at?

Stephen Reid (Todd Boyce) will apparently stop at nothing to get what he wants in Coronation Street. Since his arrival back in Weatherfield we’ve seen him killing Leo Thompkins (Joe Frost) and disposing of his body.

When Leo’s father Teddy (Grant Burgin) got too close to discovering what happened to his son, Stephen dealt with the threat by whacking him over the head, bundling the body into the roof box of Audrey (Sue Nicholls)’s car which was then driven around for quite a while until Stephen managed to get rid of it.

As well as murder, Stephen is also quite willing to lie, cheat, coerce and blackmail anyone if it’s in his interests to do so. In tonight’s episode we saw a prime example of that, as he tried to close a deal with businessman Rufus (Steven Meo).

Rufus was not impressed by Stephen and refused to do the deal, but at that point he had a heart attack after taking cocaine and Stephen had to call an ambulance. After Rufus was taken to hospital, Stephen had a go at forging the businessman’s signature on the contracts but was interrupted by the arrival of sex worked Candice (Lauren Frain), who’d been booked by Rufus.

With Candice’s help, Stephen came up with a plan. He turned up at the hospital later to demand Rufus’s signature on the contract and when he was once again refused he threatened to tell Rufus’s wife all about Candice – and he had photos and a voice message on Rufus’s phone as a little bit of added persuasion.

A triumphant Stephen found Carla (Alison King) in the Rovers later and told her that he’d secured the contract. ‘I can be very… persuasive when I need to be,’ he told her smugly. If he was hoping for Carla to heap praise on him, he was out of luck.

‘You did well,’ she conceded. ‘Considering you messed it up in the first place.’

Stephen cockily replied that he had a habit of always coming out on top, at which point Carla decided to mark his card.

‘Word of warning, Stephen. Don’t take me on. You really don’t want an enemy out of me.’

Stephen thanked her for the ‘advice,’ but as he turned away his face was angry – and he looked like he was coming up with a plan.

And, having earlier been given a vial of LSD by Rufus, it looks like the plan he’s about to put in motion involves using the drug on Carla. In a plan that Corrie boss Iain MacLeod has described as ‘so out there and dark,’ Stephen plans to convince people that Carla is once again suffering from psychosis as she did after the factory roof collapsed.

Will his sinister scheme succeed?
