Craig Doyle has admitted that he had doubts that he would ever return to TV and that he is very grateful to be a guest presenter on This Morning,

The noughties Holiday presenter admitted he had pretty much given up on ever returning to mainstream TV until the offer came through to work on the popular daytime show.

He started off by introducing some of the competitions on the show and has since become a stand-in reporter.

The Irish-born star, who has also been working alongside Josie Gibson on This Morning, said to The Mirror: "It's an amazing gig to land. There are a lot of presenters out there, so I feel very grateful.

"I have been around the block a few times and had times where I thought 'Am I ever going to get back into this world again?'

"If you step off the bus, it doesn’t always come around again and when you have been in the bubble of sport, you think the ship has sailed, so to be asked to be part of This Morning is exciting."

Craig also added that he would" never have believed a year ago" he would be doing two weeks on This Morning's sofa.

Craig is very popular on the show and fans have previously called out for him to replace the shows regular presenter Phillip Schofield.

One fan wrote: “The show is definitely more genuine, warm & friendly when Holly & Phil aren’t on it. Alison, Josie, Dermot, Vernon & Craig are all so much more likeable and relatable.”

Another said: “Craig and Josie would be a good pairing. Holly and Phillip need to step back from the show and carry on with all the other money-making shows they want to do.”

A third penned: “Absolutely loving Craig Doyle on @thismorning. He is a breath of fresh air. Please please make him a permanent presenter of the show. Better than Schofe.”

A fourth Craig fan said: “@thismorning Take note. Read the tweets. Listen to your viewers and TAKE NOTE. Craig Doyle for FULL TIME presenting instead of @Schofe #ThisMorning.”

Craig also said that he has been approached to be on Strictly Come Dancing in the past but has declined because he is "bit uncomfortable with the closeness" and thinks that "it could be difficult on your life partner".

Watch Craig Doyle on This Morning over the summer, weekdays on ITV from 10am.
