When Davina McCall was awarded an MBE back in June it should have been a happy moment, but instead, she was left feeling overcome with grief.
Ever since her role as the inaugural presenter of Big Brother, Davina has been a stalwart of British screens and was recognised for her services to broadcasting in King Charles III’s Birthday Honours list.
But it hasn’t been an easy road for the 55-year-old after she was left devastated in 2012 when her beloved sister Caroline passed away after she was diagnosed with lung cancer, which ultimately spread to her brain.
Her grandmother Pippy, who raised her, also died five years ago, and her father died last year from Alzheimer’s disease.
Speaking to The Times, the media personality has admitted that when she was awarded an MBE in June, she cried because “the three people who would be the most excited about it have all gone.”

Davina has also revealed that Caroline’s passing pushed her to reevaluate her own life and helped her to realise that all she wanted from her life was to be truly happy, but she and Matthew Robertson were essentially only in their marriage for the sake of their three children.
“In the end, we were living completely separate lives. We were hardly talking. It wasn’t arguing. We never argued. We just lived separate lives. And we weren’t happy,” Davina told the publication.
“I thought, ‘I just want to be happy, and this is really sad. We’re in a marriage and we’re in it for the kids. We love our kids, but we’re just not happy.’

“And I thought, ‘Is that really selfish?’ because my parents divorced and I thought that was so selfish.”
Davina is now in a loving relationship with her longtime hairdresser, fellow divorcee Michael Douglas, who has two children of his own.
The couple began dating after her divorce was finalised from her ex-husband Matthew Robertson in April 2018.
