EastEnders fans demand to know where missing character is as Jay is in a coma

Jay Brown’s life currently hangs in the balance after he suffered a horror car crash.

During recent EastEnders episodes, the young widower has been struggling to cope with the death of his wife Lola Pearce-Brown (Danielle Harold), turning to drink and drugs and his new companion Nadine (Jazzy Phoenix) as a way to dull the pain.

This week Jay (Jamie Borthwick) was supposed to be joining the Mitchell family to scatter Lola’s ashes at the request of his stepdaughter, Lexi.

However, Jay woke up at the Vic to a confrontation with a very angry barman George Knight (Colin Salmon) over whether he was having a negative impact on Gina Knight (Francesca Henry).

He also nearly had a physical fight with Keanu Taylor (Danny Taylor) before Billy Mitchell (Perry Fenwick) intervened to stop Jay from being hurt.

A furious Billy ordered Jay to go home and sort out Lexi something nice to wear for Lola’s ceremony, though he couldn’t face saying goodbye to his wife once again.

Later, Gina and Ben Mitchell (Max Bowden) eventually found Jay passed out on the sofa, leading to yet another huge row where Jay accidentally knocked over Lola’s urn.

Billy completely lost his temper and demanded that Jay stay away from the family forever, prompting a distraught Jay to leave for Margate even though Gina urged him not to drive.

But it wasn’t long before the police arrived at The Queen Vic looking for Jay’s next of kin as it’s revealed he’s been in an accident leaving everyone shocked.

The two coppers failed to give more details on Jay’s condition as they looked for his next of kin. “Sorry I don’t understand, are you trying to say that Jay’s dead?” Billy asked.

Billy and Honey (Emma Barton) scrambled to Walford General whilst trying to get hold of Jay’s grandfather as Ben and Callum (Tony Clay) headed home.

At the hospital, Billy became very emotional and was nearly thrown out by security after the receptionist refused to confirm if Jay was there before Callum arrived and stepped in.

Finally, Jay is located in the hospital but it’s confirmed he has been put into a coma after crashing his car into a tree.

As Jay fights for his life, some EastEnders fans have been left wondering why Phil Mitchell hasn’t been supporting his “adoptive son”.

Taking to Reddit forum dedicated to the popular BBC One soap, one fan asked: “Why isn’t Phil involved in the whole Jay storyline?”

A second stated: “I’ve been thinking the exact same thing, it’s very very weird he wasn’t shown once talking about Jay at all.”

A third chimed in with: “That’s what I’ve been thinking too. If they don’t involve him after this accident then there’s something wrong with the script writers.”

Over on X, formally known as Twitter, @tamlizann25 wrote: “@bbceastenders Is Phil not worried about Jay #EastEnders.”

“Where is Phil when Jay, Ben, and Billy are going through all of this? Surely he’d be able to offer support to Jay just as Gina is? As he’s had experience with drugs too? Man, I’d love to have as much holiday from work as Steve McFadden gets from #EastEnders”, added @coolagrawal1999.

EastEnders fans will have to tune into the BBC One soap next week to find out what happens to Jay.

EastEnders airs on Mondays – Thursdays at 7.30pm on BBC One.
