EastEnders fans couldn't help getting emotional as they watched the legendary Peggy Mitchell return to Albert Square.
The BBC soap took soap fans on a trip down memory lane on Monday night (September 5) as it transported them back to 1979 to learn more about Phil Mitchell's chequered past.
The special flashback episode saw actress Jamie Winstone act as Peggy, who used to be played by the late Dame Barbara Windsor who passed away in 2020.

Jamie previously played Dame Barbara in the TV biopic Babs, so it wasn't the first time she had transformed into Barbara on screen.
Some viewers couldn't help but miss Peggy being on their screens, and many praised Jamie for her portrayal of the iconic Peggy.
One fan wrote: "Wow I miss Peggy"
A second said: "it was nice seeing grant, peggy, ronnie, roxie, grant on our screen! really miss them. RIP Dame Barbara Windsor."
A third penned: "Don’t normally watch # EastEnders but tuned in to see #JamieWhinstone as Peggy, she’s nailed it"

Another wrote: "What a brilliant episode of @bbceastenders tonight. @JWinstone was brilliant playing a young Peggy Mitchell. Couldn’t have got a better actress to play her, Babs would have been proud."
Alongside her was 19-year-old Daniel Delaney as a younger Phil, George Russo as Phil's bully father Eric and Phil's younger brother Grant (Teddy Jay), and cousin Billy (Kieron McCarron).
The episode allowed fans to dig deeper in to the Mitchell family's past, and why DCI Keeble (Alison Newman) appears to have a vendetta against the troublesome cohort.

Keeble has been desperate for Phil (Steve McFadden) to dish the dirt on his cousin Billy Mitchell (Perry Fenwick), telling him she wanted to check Billy off her list next.
Phil, who has grown suspicious of the cop, asked: "He's family; he's a Mitchell. Why are you doing this to me?"
It turns out Phil's father Eric (played by George Russo in the episode) shot and killed Keeble's father on one of his criminal outings with a younger Phil (Daniel Delaney), his brother Grant (Teddy Jay) and Billy (Kieron McCarron).

The gang took part in a robbery, but they were found by a security guard, who happened to be the DCI's murdered father.
Eric ordered Phil to shoot the guard, but he refused, so Eric decided to do the dirty deed himself and shot him when the others ran off.
An emotional scene that followed showed a young girl and her mum given the news that the security guard had been killed.
The girl, who could be seen clutching a teddy bear, was DCI Keeble herself.
