Holly Willoughby jumps at This Morning spider segment as ITV viewers switch off

This Morning star Holly Willoughby jumped off the sofa in a panic when her co-host Phillip Schofield pretended a spider was on the loose.

The presenters had been speaking to experts to try and help beat people beat their phobia of the eight-legged creatures.

Two guests had taken some spiders in to the studio – and it seems Phil couldn't help pulling a prank on his unsuspecting co-star.

Peering down, he pretended that one spider was on the loose, asking: "How did that one get out?"

He started to laugh as Holly leaped up, saying that tricking her had been "too easy".

Schofe, 60, also teased that he'd thought Holly, 41, might turn the air blue when she thought a spider was scurrying around, and she admitted it had been "close".

The segment also saw pretend spiders running across the screen and This Morning regulars The Speakmans trying to help people tackle their fear.

However, it proved to be too much for some viewers who couldn't bear to look.

"Switch off time!" one tweeted.

Another begged: "Stop putting spiders on screen. Would like to have heard that segment but had to switch over. Nearly had a heart attack!"

"Just nearly smashed my TV when that spider ran across the TV," said another viewer. "Aahhhh another one. Stop it."

"Spiders do not bother me but come on stop with spiders running across the screen," said one person.

"Enough of the f****** spiders," tweeted someone else.
