EastEnders fans were left in shock after a recent picture was shared – which could hint to the return of one iconic character.

The BBC soap’s official Instagram account uploaded a picture of Ricky Norwood, who played Arthur "Fatboy" Chubb, along with his pal and co-star James Bye.

The picture was captioned: “Hands up if you’ve missed Fatboy!”

Fans went wild over the new snap, which showed Ricky wearing a brown T-shirt, black leather jacket and a huge grin on his face.

James stood beside him wearing a black T-shirt and a grey jumper as they posed with their arms around each other.

Fans and co-stars alike shared their appreciation for the new picture and Jacqueline Jossa, who played Lauren Branning in the soap, even got involved: “Bring him back.”

Others followed suit and one keen fan made a logical argument: “Could bring him back, didn’t see his body, that’s the rules.”

Another also noted that viewers “didn’t see the body” and “need him back”, while a third fan wrote: “EastEnders could capitalise on bringing him back by using Dot’s funeral as the perfect chance. After all, we never saw a body.”

More fans rushed to share their support for his return and begged the broadcaster to “bring him back” as he “never deserved to be gotten rid of in the first place”.

Someone else added that if “Den Watts made a comeback”, then so can Fatboy, before another fan simply wrote “petition to bring Chubb back” in capitals.

Ricky played the character from 2010 to 2015 and hasn’t been seen in Albert Square since.

He was killed – although the body was never seen – as part of Ronnie Mitchell’s murder scheme.

She was planning to kill Vincent Hubbard but his mother Claudette knew about it and replaced her son with Fatboy, who then died in a car in a tragic case of mistaken identity.

Ricky was killed off the BBC soap after Ricky was reportedly filmed smoking cannabis and performing a sexual act, which was caught from an online Skype chat by a woman he met online.

He was suspended for two months before EastEnders writers eventually killed off his character.
