EastEnders’ James Bye’s wife admits she was ‘nervous’ about the Strictly curse

Soap star James Bye’s wife Victoria has candidly revealed that she was “really nervous” about her husband growing close to his professional Strictly Come Dancing partner.

EastEnders’ James made it all the way to Strictly’s highly anticipated Halloween Week before being voted off with dance partner Amy Dowden.

But before he hit the dancefloor for the first time in his life, James’ wife of 10 years Victoria spoke of how the “Strictly Curse” had been at the forefront of her thoughts before she said she “had a word with myself”.

Discussing the matter on Wednesday’s Loose Women, Victoria said: “I’m not going to lie, I was really nervous. We’ve got a great relationship and we’ve been together for 16 years, but these girls are gorgeous and in their 20s.”

She went on: “You know, they haven’t had three children and I thought, ‘God, you’re going to be spending all this time with this other girl and that’s going to be quite a worry’, but then I had to have a little word with myself.

“He’d been working as an actor for many years and I’ve seen him pick Lacey Turner up – who’s gorgeous – and snog her on a washing machine. So I thought, if I can deal with that, I can deal with the foxtrot.”

James and Victoria’s budding romance came after they first met in a Sainsbury’s car park while James had been doing promotional work.

The meet-cute began with James, 38, handing out sweets and jellies to incoming customers while wearing “skin tight red trousers” as he stood inside a giant pineapple.

Detailing the big moment to The Mirror, Victoria said: “But I saw he’d got a little twinkle in his eye – and he’s such a cheeky charmer that by the time I’d finished my jelly I was a smitten kitten. Six months later we moved in together.”

They’ve since welcomed three children together: three sons named Edward, eight, Louis, six and Hugo, three.

Hugo’s arrival came after the pair had been struggling to conceive, with Victoria going on to be diagnosed with Endometriosis.

Following two surgeries, James and Victoria tried again and went on to welcome a little boy.

Speaking at the time of the youngster’s birth, they revealed that James had to catch Hugo in the birthing pool.

“I said to James: ‘Please help me!’ I felt a big splash and James was next to me in the birthing pool,” Victoria told us.

"We both sat there sobbing with happiness, holding him in the birthing pool."

James added: “Being the first to hold Hugo made me so emotional.”
