EastEnders star Ricky Champ lands new Netflix role after BBC One soap exit

EastEnders star Ricky Champ has landed a new exciting role on upcoming Netflix show The Decameron.

The actor, 42, who played Stuart Highway on the BBC One soap, left Albert Square last year after first joining in 2018.

And now Ricky has landed a role in Netflix show The Decameron, starring alongside Derry Girls' Saoirse-Monica Jackson, Arrested Development’s Tony Hale and his former EastEnders co-star Jessica Plummer.

It is believed that Ricky will be playing the role of The Mangy Bandit in the series, which is based on the book by Giovanni Boccaccio, and is set in Florence in 1348 amid the Black Death pandemic.

A source told The Sun: "Ricky is a brilliant actor and is going to get loads of brilliant roles.

"This is his second big thing since leaving EastEnders and no one is surprised.

"It’s been tough for Ricky to be away from his wife and kids, but he knows it is worth it for his career."

It comes as Ricky shared a picture of himself in Italy last week, where filming is reportedly currently taking place, as he penned: "Not a bad place for lunch. #pantheon #bellaitalia."

Elsewhere, EastEnders star Milly Zero has also landed a new "exciting" role after leaving the hit BBC One soap last year as her character Dotty Cotton after three and a half years.

Taking to Instagram, the actress, 23, revealed she would be playing Hermia in A Midsummer Night's Dream at Gatehouse Theatre in Stafford.

Sharing an announcement, Milly penned: "So excited to be joining @kerryellis79 and Jonathon Hyde in playing Hermia in ‘A Midsummer Nights Dream’ at @gatehouse_theatre!

"I have missed being on Stage SO much these last few years, so I am so excited to return with a new challenge – my first Shakespeare play! Hope to see some of you there!"

Milly's former EastEnders co-stars were quick to celebrate her new role and achievement.

Sonia Fowler star Natalie Cassidy put: "Congratulations" with a fire and heart emoji.

Mick Carter star Danny Dyer wrote: "Yesss young Zero" with star emojis.

Lola Pearce actress Danielle Harold put: "Yesss my girl" with heart emojis.

Janine Butcher star Charlie Brooks sweetly wrote: "I will be there with BELLS ON!! This is amazing news. So proud. Well done my darling xxx."

While Bernadette Taylor star Clair Norris added: "Go on Mills – can’t wait to see it".
