Emmerdale Daz Spencer star unrecognisable 4 years on in Yorkshire Ripper drama

Emmerdale actor Mark Jordon looked completely different as he appeared a murder suspect in new ITV drama The Long Shadow, based on catching the Yorkshire Ripper.

In the scene, DCS George Oldfield and his colleague quizzed a number of people in an interview room as they tried to track down the Yorkshire Ripper.

Mark played an innocent taxi driver who bore a resemblance to a picture a surviving victim had drawn of the man who had attacked her.

He had been in a bank of taxi drivers who drove a white car, which had been pointed out by a victim, and had happened to be in a number of the same locations as the attacks.

Mark looked totally different from the cheerful Daz Spencer on Emmerdale, and was seen with a headful of long grey curls as he looked worn down and dishevelled during the interview.

The actor has been very busy since leaving the Dales in 2019, as he has welcomed two children with his former co-star Laura Norton, who plays Kerry Wyatt.

Mark joined the cast of Emmerdale in August 2017 and became a regular cast member until he was written out in 2019 when he was exposed as Amelia's real father instead of her uncle.

The actor is also well known for playing PC Phil Bellamy in the hit TV series Heartbeat.

He and wife Laura recently spoke out about their private heartbreak after revealing their two children have been diagnosed with Usher syndrome, which affects sight and hearing.

Their son Jesse and daughter Ronnie have both got the rare genetic disease, and Mark told Hello magazine: "We've agonised about doing this before we've even told our children about their condition… we're going to write them a letter to explain why we did this and show then when they're old enough to understand."

Laura added: "Knowing that we'd passed this on to our son was heart-breaking, to watch our little boy enjoy the world around him yet know so much will be taken from him, was painful."

The Long Shadow airs on Mondays at 9pm on ITV1.
