Emmerdale viewers were issued a warning by ITV bosses minutes before the latest episode.

As fans tuned into Wednesday's (October 18) episode of the soap opera, the voiceover revealed the instalment featured "upsetting" scenes with "distress". However, it appears that the message has become overly familiar with those watching from home.

Several viewers took to social media to share the same complaint as they got distracted from the latest drama from the fictional village even before the drama kicked off.

Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, one fan penned: "Emmerdale time more upsetting scenes yet again." Another added: "Nothing new there then with some scenes of distress some viewers may find upsetting." A third person said: "Another warning."

In the village, the Dingles were still coming to terms with Lyda's (Karen Blick) rape at the hands of evil Craig Reed (Ben Addis) but her husband Sam (James Hootton) is secretly struggling with the fact that he wasn't there to protect her.

He also can't handle the fact that he can't take matters into his own hands and deal with Craig himself, instead having to go at the pace of the police investigation. In the latest episode, Sam's anger and frustration boiled over during a chat with Cain (Jeff Hordley) at Home Farm.

He raged: "I honestly think this is going to drive me mad, I'm not sleeping and Lydia can't even bear to be near me, she won't even let me give her a hug!

"This is me, I'm not like that, like him! Only maybe she won't ever see me again, in the back of her mind all she can see is Craig!" Cain told him they could "sort it" and when Sam asked how, he replied: "Well there's the law and there's the Dingle law, always has been."

Sam replied: "Make him pay…Cain, Lydia said she definitely didn't want owt like that."

But Cain replied: "But she's in no fit state to see what it's doing to you." Sam reminded Cain of that fact he was in prison not so many months ago after his feud with Al Chapman lead to his death. Cain told him: "This isn't a feud, this is different. Look I get it…but if it's what you want, I can sort it…you just have to give me the word."

Elsehwherre, Caleb Milligan (Will Ash) was left intrigued as his son Nicky Milligan (Lewis Cope) hinted that newcomer Amit Sharma (Anil Goutam) was hiding a dark secret.
