Over the years, Emmerdale has seen some major come and go, including the likes of Meena Jutla (played by Paige Sandhu), Jamie Tate (Alexander Lincoln) and Debbie Dingle (Charley Webb). And one iconic character could be making a comeback very soon, according to executive producer Jane Hudson.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Express.co.uk and other press, Jane discussed some of the ITV soap’s upcoming storylines.

She went on to tease a huge return to the village but kept tight-lipped about who.

Jamie Tate could make a comeback following his faked death last year, and he does have a son in the village which would be a reason to come back.

He also wants to seek revenge on his mum and Home Farm owner, Kim Tate (Claire King).

Meena was also the centre of a huge storyline last year when she went on a killing spree around the village.

The serial killer is currently in prison serving her sentence, but could there be a way for the villain of making a comeback?

Debbie Dingle is another favourite that fans would love to see reprising her role.

There has been a lot of drama for the Dingles of late, so Debbie could be the one to sort them out once and for all.

Speaking about the upcoming 2023 storylines, Jane said: “I am busy working on summer storylines at the moment because I always like to have a bit of a spectacular.

“So if I say that I’ve got to come up with something now.”

When asked about any cast returns, Jane teased: “I can’t tell you that.”

She went on to hint that she’s waiting for the soap star to confirm their comeback.

Fans have also shared their theories about who they’d love to see a return to the show, and many think it could be Jamie.

Lizzie shared on Twitter: “Maybe Gabby’s new love interest is killer or gay or working for Jamie Tate or Alex and it can happen and I hope Emmerdale give Jamie Tate a return to Emmerdale soon.” (sic)

Elizabeth Edwards theorised: “Emmerdale boss said that big bang for next year and maybe Kim Tate have a baby for Will Taylor in Emmerdale next year and it the truth and wait and see first and I think Jamie Tate return to Emmerdale.” (sic)

Jane also touched upon Chas (Lucy Pargeter) and Paddy’s (Dominic Brunt) storyline after her affair with Al Chapman (Michael Wildman) was finally exposed.

Paddy recently discovered his wife was having a fling behind his back and is demanding a divorce and custody of their daughter, Eve.

“We’re continuing our story with Paddy and Chas and how you navigate trying to be the best parents you can when your marriage has fallen to pieces and one of you has had an affair,” the producer explained.

“We’ll watch them both go on their journeys, and it will be very serious and quite heartbreaking as we watch what happens to what were one of our favourite couples until we tore them apart.”

Emmerdale airs weekdays at 7pm on ITV.
