Emmerdale icon confirms exit after 25 years – and final episode is days away

Emmerdale actress Samatha Giles has confirmed she's leaving the soap after 25 years.

The soap legend, 52, has played Bernice Blackstock since 1998 and she'll be bidding farwell to the Yorkshire Dales in upcoming scenes of the ITV serial drama.

She has even landed a new role away from the show which kicks off in just a few weeks as she makes her debut as Wicked Stepmother in an upcoming production of Cinderella.

Speaking on the This Morning sofa on Friday (October 20), Samantha said: "I haven't been able to kind of confirm it, really, until now. I am going. I think my last episode is 14th November, the final episode. Her departure will be the fourth time she's quit the Dales since she started playing Bernice in 1998.

A source told The Sun: "Bernice Blackstock has been in and out of Emmerdale village more than they change the barrels at The Woolpack She’s always welcomed back with open arms by ITV and fans alike, but it’s now becoming a bit of a running joke. It wouldn’t pay to bet on whether Samantha will one day be back, but for now she will leave the soap later this year."

The TV star only recently teased her new gig in the Bradford production. In a reveal photo posted on her Instagram page, Samantha could be seen jokingly covering the faces of her co-stars on the Cinderella poster. She was kitted out in black from head to toe, exactly as you would expect a panto villain to be and wore a hat with a black feather, black gloves, and a black coat as she posed for the behind-the-scenes snap.

Away from acting, has a side hustle job that’s words away from playing Bernice Blackstock. Over on Samantha’s website, fans can find her own online shop. Identifying as Wiccan – a follower of a modern pagan religion – the soap star sells a range of charms and spells, as well as copies of her book.

Samantha said on the site: "Each charm and spell comes beautifully packaged with all necessary instructions. And remember any spells undertaken must be for your greater good!”

She added: “Some spells require that you cast them when it’s either a full or new moon. Instructions are provided with each spell." The items on offer range from the "Change Your Luck" charm, priced at £12.99 to "Love Spell" which is going for £15.50. There is also a spell to apparently "help mend a broken heart" which costs £12.99.

Emmerdale airs weekdays on ITV1 and ITVX at 7.30pm
