Cain Dingle (played by Jeff Hordely) is covering for his 10-year-old son Kyle Winchester (Huey Quinn) over Al Chapman’s (Michael Wildman) murder. In scenes yet to air on Emmerdale, a tormented Kyle creates a memorial for Al in the barn where he was shot dead. Will Moira Barton (Natalie J Robb) and Amy Wyatt (Natalie Ann Jamieson) stop Kyle’s secret from spreading across the Yorkshire Dales?
When his stepmother Moira and mother Amy return from Belfast, the atmosphere is frosty as Matty Barton (Ash Palmisciano) is still upset they kept Kyle’s secret from him.
Later on, Amy insists their relationship is finished as she is hellbent on making her son Kyle her priority from now on.
She is also determined to clear Moira’s name with her sister Chloe Harris (Jessie Elland) who is convinced Moira was having an affair with Al.
However, Amy makes Chloe shut down her investigation for Kerry Wyatt’s (Laura Norton) sake as she is still grieving her late partner Al.
Chloe reluctantly agrees but is deeply hurt when Amy tells her to move out of her home.
With nowhere to go, Chloe informs her sister she is expecting a baby in the hopes it will change her mind.
The sisters and Matty eventually reconcile and Amy tells Moira and Mackenzie Boyd (Lawrence Robb) Chloe is pregnant.
Mackenzie, who does not want anyone to know he is the father, squirms but he is relieved no one knows the truth.
Elsewhere, a guilt-ridden Kyle makes a memorial for Al as he is clearly tormented by his actions.
The following day, Moira visits her partner Cain in prison as she is worried about how quickly their secret is spreading.
Meanwhile Matty finds a collection of rocks placed in the middle of the barn where Al was killed and realises Kyle was creating a memorial for the late businessman.
When Moira moots finding Al’s real mistress, Cain doesn’t admit it’s his sister Chas Dingle (Lucy Pargeter).
Meanwhile, Matty becomes concerned it is too soon for Kyle to return to school after seeing the memorial he made for Al.
The next day, Amy, Moira and Matty try to put on a united front as they prepare Kyle for school but their anxiety is palpable.
Is their decision to send Kyle back to school a terrible idea?
Could it only be a matter of time before Kyle admits to killing Al to his classmates or teachers?
Emmerdale fans have been left divided over Cain’s decision to take the fall for his son, with Tracy Creedy tweeting: “I don’t get why Cain said it was him! Letting Kyle think it’s OK to shoot someone made his attitude at school change. That really did him good didn’t it?” (sic)
Claire Thomas added: “The second you tell a secret it is no longer a secret. I want Moria to find out about Chas’s affair and then tell everyone both about her and that it was Kyle who shot Al.”
Edith Beevers said: “Poor Moira, I wish they would all tell the truth it would be much better.”
Emmerdale airs on weekdays at 7.30pm on ITV.
