Bhasker Patel has reflected on his time as Rishi Sharma in Emmerdale, following a huge twist which saw the character killed off on son Jai’s wedding day.
There has been animosity aplenty between Rishi and Jai (Chris Bisson) in recent weeks, after Jai found out that Rishi isn’t his biological dad.
Matters were complicated further by Rishi’s refusal to open up about the identity of Jai’s real dad, which prompted Jai to disown him, banning him from his wedding to Laurel Thomas (Charlotte Bellamy).
Rishi finally spilled the beans during Thursday’s (July 27) edition of the ITV soap, revealing that his own brother is actually Jai’s dad, which came as a huge shock to everyone.
Harsh words were exchanged between the father and son duo, with it looking like Rishi wouldn’t be invited to the wedding but, after giving it some thought, Jai changed his mind, desperately wanting his dad there to see him get wed.
Rishi was notified of Jai’s change of heart and subsequently prepared to leave for the church, but he never made it to the service, with the final moments of the outing seeing the patriarch dead at the bottom of the stairs.
We’re not crying, we swear.
Bhasker, who has played Rishi for over a decade, reflected on his time on the show, revealing that he’s going to miss Emmerdale ‘enormously’.
‘Thanks for watching Rishi over the years,’ he said.
