Felix Westwood (Richard Blackwood) was left utterly speechless in Hollyoaks after a visit from Verity Hutchinson (Eva O’Hara), who warned him that he should prepare DeMarcus (Tomi Ade) for the worst.

DeMarcus, as viewers know, is languishing behind bars for a crime he did not commit, after Joseph Holmes (Olly Rhodes) stabbed and killed Saul Reeves (Chris Charles), before pinning the blame on his nemesis.

Felix, meanwhile, has joined forces with Zoe Anderson (Garcia Brown) to conduct their own independent investigation into Saul’s demise, hoping to find proof of DeMarcus’ innocence.

But with so much focus on DeMarcus’ case, Pearl (Dawn Hope) was quick to remind Felix to not forget about his son’s wellbeing, as she encouraged him to visit him to pass on his GCSE results.

Felix needed some persuading at first, but ultimately he resolved to pay DeMarcus a visit. He did just that on Monday (August 29), in a very special episode of the Channel 4 soap, which featured only this storyline.

DeMarcus, meanwhile, has had a lot to deal with since being in young offenders, such as inmate Reuben putting pressure on him to get involved in dodgy deals, so he was taken aback when his dad showed up.

There was tension between the father and son duo, with Felix knowing full well that DeMarcus was keeping something from him. DeMarcus, however, was quick to berate his dad, claiming that he always runs when the going gets tough – hence why he had no male role model growing up.

Both characters’ pasts were explored in the truly superb outing of the serial drama, as DeMarcus realised the true extent on how Felix’s childhood shaped him, and vice versa, thus bringing them closer together.

DeMarcus ultimately did the right thing following his heart-to-heart with his dad, informing the prison guards about Reuben’s actions, while Felix returned home on cloud nine, pleased to have bonded with his son.

There was, however, more heartbreak to come, as Verity stopped by Felix’s flat to inform him that, after taking a look at the evidence, she believes that – without any actual proof of his innocence – DeMarcus should prepare for the worst.

Felix was horrified, and subsequently struggled to wish his so goodnight via the phone, knowing that there is a possibility he could be spending the rest of his life behind bars.

Will Felix succeed in finding that crucial evidence to prove DeMarcus’ innocence?

Hollyoaks continues Tuesday August 30 at 7pm on E4, or stream the next episode on E4 from midnight on All4.
