FROM Atonement to The Imitation Game, Keira Knightley’s war movies have helped her win numerous plaudits.

Now the actress will reveal how wartime has shaped her personal life too, as she tops the bill in a second series of Channel 4’s My Grandparents’ War.



Keira will feature on the show with Game Of Thrones hunk Kit Harrington, Detectorists’ actor Toby Jones and singer Emili Sande.

In the upcoming four-parter they will all look at their relatives’ experiences in conflicts around the world and how that shaped their families.

A TV insider said: “C4 are keeping all the details of their stories under wraps for now, but have confirmed filming locations ranging from the killing fields of Kenya to the mountains of Monte Cassino in Italy.

"And the producers say the series will touch on the most ­controversial spying operation of the 20th century as well as the fight for independence in Africa.

“But if their stories are anything like those of the celebrities who featured in series one, then this should be ­captivating.”

The first series starred four other famous faces and aired in 2019 to mark the 80th anniversary of the start of the Second World War.

All of the stories featured the first time round took place during that conflict. They included those of Wolf Hall star Mark Rylance, whose grandfather spent four years as a prisoner of war, and The Crown actress Helena Bonham Carter, whose grandad helped Jewish people to flee the Nazis during the Holocaust.

Meanwhile Four Weddings And A Funeral favourite Kristin Scott Thomas discovered how her grand–father captained ships protecting convoys to Russia, and The Great Gatsby’s Carey Mulligan learnt how her grandfather survived a kamikaze attack.

They’re tough tales to follow but, given that the second series has been three years in the making, expectations are high.

Beware the MP fakers

CONVINCING digital fakes of TV interviews with politicians could be just months away, says the man behind BBC1 tech drama The Capture.

The conspiracy series showed MP Isaac Turner, played by Paapa Essiedu, replaced by a “deepfake” clone who voiced the views of a hostile power on TV’s Newsnight.

The Capture writer Ben Chanan said deepfake tech – the use of AI-generated video replicas to mislead the public – is advancing daily.

He said: “How swiftly could you hack a camera feed, disrupt it with a different feed, and present viewers with a deepfake on live TV?

The technology is so convincing that what we depicted might be only a few months away.”

Queen's "a great luvvie"

CORRIE star Maureen Lipman is a fan of the Queen – as she reckons Her Majesty is a great actress.

Maureen points out our Monarch has been playing the same role for 70 years and, after meeting her on several occasions, discovered she has great timing and an incredible memory.

The star, who has played Evelyn Plummer on the ITV soap since 2018, told the Difficult Women podcast: “I had a lunch at The Ivy with (the Queen) and she said, ‘I believe you’re coming to the Palace quite soon’.

“And I said, ‘Yes, ma’am, if I can find something to wear’.

“That was November, and then (at the palace) in February she said to me, ‘I see you found something to wear’.”

Maybe Maureen can get her a cameo on the cobbles.

Asif Kapadia’s new docuseries

Asif Kapadia, who made Oscar-winning docu Amy, about Amy Winehouse is working on a docuseries about Camden’s musical history for Disney+.

Asif said: “It celebrates an ever-evolving music scene in a unique place which has a musical legacy to match anywhere in the world.”

My Keeley dream in ashes

IT’S a scientific fact that most men fancy Keeley Hawes.

And the line-up of fellas carrying a torch for the Line Of Duty and Bodyguard star includes England cricket legend David Gower.

He recalled appearing in a 2010 Sport Relief spoof of TV crime series Ashes To Ashes, where he is seen hitting on Keeley’s character, police-woman Alex Drake.

David, who revealed one of his favourite shows was The Durrells, also starring Keeley, said: “I was the accused across the table and I go ‘Rather than plead guilty, how about we share a bottle of champagne, and I take you out?’ type stuff.
