Fiona Bruce explains why she has a sling and black eye

Fiona Bruce explained a shock injury to BBC viewers after appearing on Question Time with a black eye and her arm in a sling.

The 59-year-old was fronting the show as usual to debate the latest on politics when she addressed her injuries.

“Good evening, welcome to our panel, welcome to our audience in Wolverhampton – great to see you,” the host remarked as the show opened.”

“It takes me to a different place. I can’t think about anything else when I’m doing it.

“I love being around horses. I love the speed. I love being outdoors.”

Fiona is used to grilling politicians on Question Time, and in the previous week’s show she notably put Labour MP Lisa Nandy on the spot over the party’s position on HS2.

In a heated moment, Nandy demanded the presenter “let me answer” as she was pressed on whether her party would build the high-speed rail line in full.

Bruce told Ms Nandy she was “confused” about what Labour’s position was on the project, which has question marks over its future.

She asked the Labour MP a number of times to confirm if Sir Keir Starmer would go ahead with the entire rail line.

Nandy stated: “We want to see HS2 built, we’ve been consistent about that over a long period of time. The reason I want to see it built…”

Bruce interrupted: “So just to be clear, that’s Labour policy?”

Ms Nandy said: “Let me… let me… let me… let me answer, if it’s alright.”

Question Time airs weekly on Thursdays at 10.45pm on BBC Two.
