Former Brookside star on how she coped being stupidly famous from a young age

Jennifer Ellison talks about fame and fortune

Former Brookside star Jennifer Ellison credited the slow burn of finding fame at a young age as the reason she coped with being “stupidly famous”.

Appearing on the latest Sunday Brunch, Jennifer reminisced about her time on the popular soap.

Host of the Channel 4 cooking show Tim Lovejoy commented: “How many years? 20 years since it ended?”

As the actress confirmed, he went on: “20 years… we were just saying, [it was] absolutely huge, wasn’t it, at the time?

“It exploded onto our screens and became such a big thing.”

“It did,” the 40-year-old nodded in agreement.

“What was it like in those days for you? Because you were stupidly famous, weren’t you?” Tim probed.

Jennifer replied: “Yeah, it was… well I was a child, so it started when I was 12, so it was all I ever really knew – I grew up with it.

“And the more I was involved in storylines, the more it gradually happened.

“So it wasn’t like the reality TV now, where it’s instant and overnight.”

She concluded: “So it wasn’t too bad and I just loved it.”

Tim and Simon Rimmer mentioned how Brookside fans are still eager for the soap to come back, which Jennifer confirmed as she explained she still gets asked if it will return.

Speaking earlier this week on Good Morning Britain, the actress teased a possible revival for the soap.

When asked by presenter Kate Garraway if she’d like to see Brookside back on screens, Jennifer responded: “I think anyone who was involved in it… it holds such a special place in all our hearts, that I couldn’t say no.”

She continued: “I’d feel like I was cheating all the people who’d given me the start in this industry.

“So yeah, I’d love to see it come back, it would be amazing.

“And there’s so many people who would love to see it come back.”
