Emmerdale’s Gabby (Rosie Bentham) has been slogging her guts out to get noticed by Kim Tate (Claire King) and when she finally gets the recognition she’s after, the power goes to her head and it all goes to hell. And of course, our Gabby is not one for self-reflection, instead taking it out on Dawn (Olivia Bromley) in an unforgivable way.
Kim loves Gabby’s proposal to expand the business into schools and offers her the exciting opportunity to present her own idea.
It’s daunting, and when she’s put in front of Nicola (Nicola Wheeler), councillor Collin and guests from other local schools to pitch the project, nerves get the better of her. She begins floundering and hard-to-please Kim throws her a look of disapproval.
It’s just the motivation Gabby needs to snap out of it and she pushes on with her speech, even taking no nonsense from Nicola when she tries to derail Gabby with questions over safety. It’s a triumph – Nicola is ready to sign on the dotted line and Gabby’s proposal is set to become a reality.
Things look good and get even better when Kim finally offers Gabby the position of deputy. Gabby is ecstatic and grabs a bottle of fizz to celebrate. She invites Nicky to join her, but as she knocks back the booze, something in her head tells her she can have anything she wants, and she pounces on an unsuspecting Nicky.
He is left aghast as she tries to plant a kiss on him, jumping to his feet and telling her in no uncertain terms that he doesn’t see her that way. Gabby is deeply embarrassed, an emotion she doesn’t deal with well. This turns to anger when she realises Dawn (Olivia Bromley) has witnessed the whole sorry affair.
Gabby looks to displace her embarrassment and the next day when she and Dawn argue about priorities, Gabby’s embarrassed and vindictive side surfaces. In a moment of pure vitriol, Gabby brands Dawn a ‘prostitute’.
Dawn is mortified to realise Lucas, Will, and Clemmie have heard Gabby’s words and flees in tears. Lucas is left with an awkward question, how will Dawn cope with the fall out of Gabby’s attack?
