Gogglebox star spills show secrets from salary to rewatching clips 3 times

Former Gogglebox star Paige Deville has spilled show secrets, from how much cast members get paid to how they rewatch clips multiple times so that producers can capture the best reactions.

Paige, 23, joined the show – where normal families around the UK watch current TV – with her mum Sally, in 2019, but quit in 2021 after falling out with her mother.

Now, two years on, Paige is dishing on what really goes on behind the scenes of the much-loved Channel 4 show.

After announcing her departure from Gogglebox with a blistering tweet slamming Gogglebox producers for giving her "zero aftercare," Paige has now likened filming the show to being in a "pantomime".

She told of how the TV families have to sit down and watch five clips of recent shows, and also allegedly watch each one three times so that producers can choose which of their reactions is best.

Paige also shared that filming for the show can take several hours and that sometimes producers would step in to explain programmes or drum up excitement for certain parts of shows.

Speaking to The Sun, Paige said: "They [producers] wouldn’t tell you, 'Say this word for word,' but they prep you to say things and warn you about comments that won’t make it into the show.

"Sometimes they give you a 'three, two, one' countdown which gears you up and gets you ready to react. It’s a bit of a pantomime behind the scenes, you have to understand that you’re a character in a show and you can't be your 100 per cent authentic self, otherwise everyone would be on their phones for half of the show.

"They film it three times in case they miss a reaction and to have different responses, at times it can be a bit like, 'Right, I’m watching this again', but it’s a job at the end of the day."

She even revealed what the stars of the show get paid, saying that rate starts at £100 a day, but some of the more familiar faces that are popular with the public can demand higher pay.

Paige claimed the fact that stars get paid differently as one of the reasons why the Gogglebox families don't meet up – incase there was ever a dispute about the salaries.

She also said that, to help with continuity whilst show bosses are editing, the prop snacks are rarely ever touched, and stars of the show have to sit in the same positions.

Paige left the show in 2021, announcing the news on Twitter as she wrote: "I have made the decision to walk away from Gogglebox."

Paige is thought to still not be on speaking terms with her mother, Sally, who she used to appear on the show with.
