Happy Valley's James Norton reveals 'violent' scenes were cut from show as fans hail series three return | The Sun

JAMES Norton has revealed some "particularly violent" scenes were previously cut from Happy Valley.

The 37-year-old actor stars as Tommy Lee Royce in the hit crime drama which returned on New Year's Day for a third and final instalment.

In series one Tommy imprisoned police support officer Ann Gallagher, played by Charlie Murphy, in a cellar.

She was later rescued by Sarah Lancashire's Sgt Catherine Cawood.

Speaking to Radio Times, James recalled: "When we filmed those scenes, they were much more violent – they were tamed down in the edit.

"I remember having really weird dreams for quite a long time after that."

James has also teased how Tommy and Catherine will come to blows this series.

Speaking to British Period Dramas, James said of the two characters: "The relationship between Catherine and Tommy is kind of everything, at least for Tommy.

"Tommy has Catherine and Ryan, they are the big two poles of his existence. Catherine has her family and does not want to think about Tommy."

He added: “They are obsessed with each other, there’s a kind of deep, deep hatred in the way that when you think about someone that you hate they inhabit part of your consciousness. There’s a sort of, not love at all but, there is a kind of connection and affinity.
