Home and Away brings in huge TV presenter as guest star in Channel 5 soap

Home and Away is set to welcome a surprise star in the new year.

Olympian-turned-presenter Matt Shirvington will step into Summer Bay as he makes a guest appearance on the Channel 5 soap. The 45-year-old has reportedly filmed scenes at Sydney's iconic Palm Beach, as reported by 7NEWS.com.au.

While news surrounding his storyline has been kept under wraps, it's believed the TV star will play himself in scenes set to air next year. Matt, who began co-hosting morning show Sunrise with Natalie Barr back in May, opened up to the publication about guest starring in the Aussie soap.

He said: "As a kid who grew up watching Home and Away, it was all a bit surreal to be in Summer Bay with Alf Stewart! What a fun experience. The entire cast and crew were so welcoming and generous with acting tips and advice for this novice."

He added: “I think this will be one of those things my kids are never going to let me live down!” The former athlete isn't the first Sunrise star to land a role on Home and Away.

Back in 2021, weather presenter Sam Mac made his acting debut, playing himself at a Summer Bay soiree. At the time, he shared a photo alongside Alf Stewart star Ray Meagher.

In the snap, Sam held a shirt and hat with the slogan, “Sam Mac is… Summer Bae”. He captioned the post: "My @homeandaway episode is on TONIGHT. I’m not sure Alf is on board with my line of commemorative “Sam Mac-chandise” He threatened legal action." It's clear fans have plenty to look forward to in the new year as Tristan Gorey will make his debut as new doctor Levi.

The Aussie actor, best known for his breakout role in the award-winning series Mystery Road: Origin, joins the cast as a qualified Cardiothoracic Surgeon who will "race to save a Home and Away favourite". While Australian viewers were introduced to the new character in early November, UK fans will have to wait to see Levi in action until 2024.
