I work at This Morning — this is who I reckon will replace Phillip Schofield

This Morning star Dan Hatfield has revealed who he is “putting his money on” to replace Phillip Schofield following his ITV exit.

Back in May, the 61-year-old stepped down from the ITV show, a role he had occupied for over two decades, after he confessed to an affair with a younger male colleague.

Phillip revealed he had the "unwise but not illegal" fling with the runner while still married – and lied to his wife, friends and colleagues about it.

In the wake of the scandal, co-host Holly Willoughby took a two-week break from the show and finally returned – where she told viewers she felt "shaken", "troubled" and "let down" by Phillip.

Since then, Holly has had a revolving door of temporary co-hosts filling Phillip’s seat in the studio – while bosses decide on a permanent replacement.

National treasure Alison Hammond has fronted the show alongside Holly, along with telly faves Dermot O’Leary, Josie Gibson and Craig Doyle.

And now, speaking exclusively to Daily Star, This Morning favourite Dan has shared his thoughts on who could replace Phillip.

The much-loved pawnbroker has been a regular on the show for years – winning viewers over thanks to his impeccable and top-notch money advice.

When asked who he’s putting his money on to replace Phil, Dan said: “You know what, I think what they’re doing at the moment, how the entire This Morning family are kind of in a rota system, really works.”

He explained: “You’ve got Craig who is so funny and so engaging, you’ve got Alison like everyone’s big sister.

“And you’ve got Dermot who is just a professional, but also is so engaging and so lovely with anyone who comes on the show.”

Dan went on: “As it works now, I think it really works that the family have just pulled all together and are on the rota system.”

As for his time on the show, Dan had nothing but kind words to describe his experience, revealing: “This Morning has really welcomed me with open arms. It’s lovely to be a member.”

Dan recently tied the knot with producer beau Joff – and a certain member of the This Morning team even got a sneak peek at the rings.

“Both Alison and Holly have been really supportive on the run up to the wedding, they’ve both been giving me loads of advice,” Dan told the Daily Star.

He added: “Alison had a look at the rings beforehand and gave me her opinion on it.”

Determined to help out people during the current financial crisis, Dan is also writing a book at the moment.

“It’s going to be a book that’s going to help people make money out of their everyday environment, look at the items and they own, and the interest they got, and turn that into a way they can make money,” he said.

This Morning airs weekdays on ITV1 and ITVX at 10am
