I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! saw two new arrivals enter the jungle on Wednesday night in the form of MP Matt Hancock and comedian Seann Walsh. The pair took part in their first Bush Tucker Trial to win the camp some food and were given undercover tasks for when they entered the main camp. However, Matt’s arrival was met with a cold shoulder from some of the other campmates, leading to a tense conversation with Loose Women star Charlene White.

Entering the camp, many of the contestants were surprised to see Matt joining them and not sure how to react.

Analysing how he would fit in in camp, Sue Cleaver said to Boy George and Mike Tindall: “He sticks out like a sore thumb.”

Trying to stick up for him, Boy George said: “I think he’s super nervous though,” to which Sue added: “He must be very nervous…”

Up at the lookout, Matt and Charlene sat down to have a heart-to-heart about his arrival in the camp and why he decided to come onto the show.

Matt began: “Everybody’s really nice. Nobody’s trying to be spikey are they?”

Charlene quipped: “Were you nervous about that?” to which Matt confidently replied: “Not really… it was on the worry list.”

Abruptly, Charlene said: “So why did you do it?”

Matt explained: “Because there’s, honest truth, is because there’s so few ways in which politicians can show that we’re human beings.

“So I just thought it would be good to do that. I’ve got a sense of adventure.”

Confirming what he meant by his explanation, Charlene asked: “So you kind of want people to see you for you?”

Former health secretary Matt admitted in response: “I hope so.”

In the Bush Telegraph, Charlene expressed: “Matt has a tough hill to climb, but he’s put himself on that hill and for me as a journalist, I have to ask him why.”

Continuing their conversation, Matt said to Charlene: “If I can use this to sort of peel myself back a bit and just be me, it’s better.”

Charlene jibed: “But I can imagine it would not have gone down well at all at home? You have to expect that. Because Parliament is still sitting, we’re not in recess, you know…”

Matt said: “I genuinely think that because we’ve now got sort of stability that is…”

However, tensions threatened to boil over as Charlene interrupted: “We’ve had stability for all of five minutes, Matt.”

Defending his decision once more and lauding the new Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, Matt replied: “Rishi’s great, he’ll be fine.”

Annoyed, Charlene quipped: “But you can understand if people aren’t very happy at home about it?”

Matt explained: “I understand that. But I also.. of course, I get that, right. But I also just think that sometimes you’ve got to do things differently.”

Charlene remarked: “I’m not sure going on I’m A Celebrity is the way to do it but you’re doing you and it’s a decision you’ve made and honestly it will be fascinating just to see.”

Trying to make light on the conversation, Matt said: “Do things a bit differently, eh?”

Back in the Bush Telegraph, Charlene slammed: “Politicians do tend to use that line, ‘I feel as though the public need to know the real me’.

“I’m not necessarily sure a reality TV show is a way to do that.”
