I’m A Celeb’s grim task it appears all campmates do – even though they actually don’t

A former I'm A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! contestant has revealed there is one job on the show that the stars aren't actually expected to do.

Phil Tufnell, who was crowned the winner of the ITV show in 2003, has disclosed that one of the most disgusting tasks that seems to be done by the campers is, in fact, handled by the crew.

The former cricket star claimed that contestants don't actually need to clean out the camp toilet, known as the dunny, revealing that the producers bring in staff to perform the grim task.

Phil explained in his memoir that the celebrities are only expected to carry it for the cameras.

He wrote, “I stuck to the dunny – believe me, an unenviable task. I'd literally have nightmares about it – tripping as I was carrying it away and being consumed by a cascading torrent of celebrity sewage.

"A little secret here – the contestants remove the dunny, but don't actually empty it.

"They carry it down to a camouflaged wooden hut, tap on the door and clear off. It's basically an extreme version of that old knock-and-run game where you wrap a bit of dog muck in newspaper, set it on fire, drop it by someone's front door, ring the bell, and leg it.”

Phil made his jungle return last year to compete in the All-Star season, where he made the final four.

The sports star got to the final alongside Fatima Whitbread, Jordan Banjo, and Myleene Klass, with Myleene taking home the crown.

Phil revealed in his exit interview that he has really 'hit it off' with Happy Monday singer Shaun Ryder.

“He said we are going to go on tour with him with The Happy Mondays. Crikey, I might just go for a couple of nights,” he explained.

Popular Phil was full of praise for most of his co-stars, going on to say: “I got very close to Dean and Joe. Great lads, they came bouncing in like bouncy balls. Just full of life.

"And also Jordan, or the biggun' as I call him. Toff was great fun. Carol was beautiful and demure. Amir is a great lad, what a top bloke he is. Janice is absolutely lovely – and wild – crikey, there's not too many Janices in the world.”

But it was his hilarious friendship with Shaun, 60, that stood out, with viewers enjoying their bromance in the jungle. "I mean, absolute legend, and we just have a laugh," he said, talking about his new best pal.

He added: “He makes me laugh and I think, especially with that stick, he looks like Yoda. Y'know the little bloke with the hessian cloak in Star Wars with the stick and the ears. I reckon he's gonna start levitating soon.”
