Inbetweeners star James Buckley has revealed he has an irrational phobia of monkeys.
The actor, who played foul-mouthed Jay Cartwright, said his fear developed after watching videos of macaques and Barbary apes attacking tourists in holiday hotspots like Gibraltar.
And he confessed he has been having visions of monkeys trying to mug him. James said: “The other night, just before I fell asleep, I was watching clips on my phone.

“We’ve all seen those videos of people on holiday, and they’re with those little monkeys, and they end up getting mugged — hats, phones, iPads and stuff like that.”
And he confessed he has been having a moral dilemma over whether it is acceptable to punch one of the creatures if it tried to nick his stuff.
He added: “I’d never be able to kill an animal. But I was thinking, could I punch a monkey?“
Like if it was going for my phone I would punch it in the face. ”The actor, who rakes in fortunes making personal videos for fans on the app Cameo, also admitted he worried in the vision that if he beat up a monkey his career might nosedive.
He said: “This was the whole thing in my head: I’d been cancelled for punching a monkey. “Then I had to make a video of me saying, ‘You’ve got to understand, it was going for my phone’.“And I have to do my Cameos and stuff with that — it’s my livelihood.
That monkey was going to put me out of work.“ A load of people would be expecting ‘happy birthday’ off Jay from the Inbetweeners, and if it’s some macaque or something, they’d all be disappointed.
“Nobody would buy any more Cameos from me. “That’s what kept me up the other night. My life was ruined because I punched a monkey, which, by the way, was trying to mug me.”
Last month the star revealed there is no animal he wouldn’t eat including a tiger if they weren’t endangered. He admitted: “I am the complete opposite of a vegetarian, I could just eat meat. If you took the moral implications out I don’t think there isn’t an animal that I wouldn’t try.“
Like if you said, ‘I’ve got tiger here.’ I would say no because let’s not kill tigers because we’re running out of them, but if we farmed tigers, I’d try that.”
