Simon Gregson discusses anxiety battle on Lorraine
Simon Gregson’s Coronation Street alter ego Steve McDonald has been married an astonishing seven times but in real-life, Simon has been married to Emma Gleave for the past 13 years.
However, his proposal left a lot to be desired, as Emma revealed on Living With Lucy on Virgin Media Television on Sunday night.
The show sees presenter Lucy Kennedy live with celebrities and their families for 72 hours. While staying with Simon, she asked how he proposed and Emma revealed: “It was the most unromantic proposal ever,” as Simon protested.
She explained that they had only been dating around six weeks when it happened, as she set the scene.
“Simon had a bedroom with an ensuite, and he was in the bath and then I was just laying on the bed, reading something,” she said.

“And he went Emma I love you. And I said I love you too. And he went, ‘will you marry me?’ I’m thinking he was just kind of joking,” she admitted. “I went yeah, yeah of course I will.”
“He jumped out the bath and said ‘I’ve literally got to be in work 20 minutes. Let’s go pick a ring quick’.”
As Lucy looked shocked and told him that he had to make up for it at their vow renewal, Emma chimed in: “You’ve been promising me for the last 17 years that you’re going to do it properly.”
In his defence Simon said: “I still maintain it was lovely. Thought came into my head – I love her, I wanna marry her. I wanna be with her for the rest of my life.
“I’m not gonna dwell on it I’m just gonna ask her straight out and get that ring on her finger before she has a chance to realise what just happened,” he intimated.
